Understanding Sciatica
Sciatica is commonly used to describe pain and other symptoms that travel along the path of the sciatic nerve, often from the lower back or buttock into the leg.
Symptoms can include pain, tingling, pins and needles, numbness or altered sensation. However, not every pain that travels into the buttock or leg is sciatica, and similar symptoms can have different causes.
This is why an appropriate history and examination are important. Dr Xavier considers your symptoms, relevant spinal and musculoskeletal findings and neurological signs before determining whether chiropractic care may be appropriate.
If your presentation suggests that medical assessment, imaging or referral is required, Dr Xavier can discuss the appropriate next step with you.
